The international carriers could learn a lot from Bangkok Airways in terms of customer service. At Don Muang, Bangkok, and at Koh Samui, they have a dedicated departure lounge with plenty of seats and free fruit, water and juice. At Bangkok, there is also Internet access. I'm no good at aircraft types but our outward flight was on a very small propellor plane with a 2-2 seat configuration and a central aisle. The return journey was on a bigger plane with 3-3 seating. Legroom was fine both ways. The crew were charming and efficient and managed to serve a meal and drinks on the 50 minute flight.
Koh Samui airport is owned by the airline, I believe, and is absolutely delightful, guaranteed to put a smile on your face - it's certainly the prettiest I've ever seen with thatched huts for terminals. Transport from the plane is in open sided, painted trucks with bench seats, a bit like the traditional Thai songthaews. On the return journey they check your luggage all the way through to your final destination. For such a tiny airport, I find this mind-blowing.
