Very pleasantly surprised!, May 23, 2010
reviewer: Mike Warson from UK
Booked holiday with Thomson with some trepidation.. We needen't have worried. Flight (to Funchal, Madiera) was not full, so they called las few passengers a little early ensuring we left on time.
Cabin staff were smart, friendly, entertaining! (yes, really) and nothing was too much trouble.
There was the usual overpriced drinks etc., but the food was surprisingly edible! (and I won't normally touch airline food..)
(Leather) seats were comfortable too with a little more legroom than easyjet - not too difficult..
We landed early in Funchal, had a great holiday and return flight was an identical experience to the first.
I thought that Thomson were a cheap and tacky outfit until this holiday - I would now travel with them again without hesitation!

Incidentally, we have taken an identical holday to the same hotel with Sovereign Holidays, who use easyjet, and the flights were the only downside of the holiday.

Never Again, Jun 18, 2008
reviewer: Pippin from UK
OMG!! This is the worst airline I have ever flown with!! Where to start?? Okay, firstly on the departure flight from Luton to Tel Aviv, the flight was approx 1hr 30mins late departing, no explanation given. Seating was extremely cramped and requests to move if possible were ignored! Food extremely expensive and smelt awful! Departing Tel Aviv to Luton, the flight departure times changed 3 times, flight delayed yet again and again no explanation given. Told at check in that if we wanted our suitcases put in the hold we would have to pay $40 to do so. Seating again extremely cramped, food totally disguisting! Cabin crew extremely rude and insulting, and they spent most of the time in the back of the plane chatting to each other. When concerns were raised with the purser, was ranted at, was told that it was they who had reasons to complain as they worked 12hr shifts!! Totally unprofessional & discourtious

Avoid this airline like the plague!!

Flight only to Jamaica, May 17, 2008
reviewer: Dave, Manchester from UK
I was reading reviews of thompsonfly before my hols to jamaica and was hesitant about booking and flying with them. Most of the reviews gave a pretty awful view of the airline which put me off booking with them. I did eventually decide to go with them as they were the only airline I could find that fly direct from manchester to montego bay and at a reasonable price. The booking was straightfoward on their website and all details were confirmed by email. The flight left more or less on time, plane was clean and tidy and seats gave enough legroom -i'm 6ft. Food was OK, stewards were friendly, overall the flight was good and comfortable. The flight back was also good with no delays, apart from the entertainment system going on the blink but was soon fixed. You basically get what you pay for and I would fly with them again.Don't let the reviews put you off.

Scam, May 07, 2008
reviewer: kaye wyatt from england
Their online booking service is disastrous, it defaults to alternative dates without so much as a hint it has done this. Their customer services are rude. Their behaviour toward online bookers has been highlighted on BBCs watchdog recently as ripping people off.

Great all round, Mar 20, 2007
reviewer: Sarah from UK
Just got back from Florida and the Thomsonfly flights to and from Sanford were very good. They exceeded my expectations and we had no problems either way. The flights were punctual, the crews excellent and the onboard services more than satisfactory. The seats and leg room were also fine and as expected. I wouldn't hesitate flying long haul with Thomsonfly again and look forward to trying their new long haul product which launches May 2007.

Thomson Sham, Jan 06, 2007
reviewer: Paul Fisher from Yorkshire, UK
Like other reviewers here, I can honestly say that Thomson Fly is the worst airline I have ever used, and I fly all over Europe many times throughout the year. Try Manchester to Salzburg in November 2006 - the crew taken straight from Fawlty Towers. Senior stewardess who forgot to seal the cabin door, forgot another safety issue until 2 hours into the flight (and then laughed as she said I always forget to do that!), flight long discussion on how she was going to avoid working at Christmas, and all the excuses she had used for not working! And spending the flight gassing to a colleague who happened to be a passenger on the flight, serving her free drinks, while totally ignoring the other passengers. But the best bit, in front of a very nervous passenger while we circled Salzburg over thick fog, was to shout out that she (on the flight deck) had to have a trainer on board with her as she had only ever landed one of these (Boeing 737) on her lap top. And Thomson's response to two letters? 'Claim on your travel insurance!' The MD does not have the courtesy of responding to personally addressed letters, and the offensive 'customer service' staff at their Luton offices treat you like an imbecile! Avoid Thomson Fly like the plague, and use the many other excellent low fare and scheduled airlines that operate out of the UK.

Currency rip-off, Oct 21, 2006
reviewer: John Swift from UK
Thomsonfly has a nice little earner going on regarding currency exchange. you get almost 1 for 1 when exchanging Cypriot pounds for UK pounds when buying drinks and refreshments on the aircraft, they must make a nice little extra income if they operate this money laundering scam on all their flights.

Pisa - Doncaster, Jul 08, 2005
reviewer: Penelope Smith from UK
I fly to Italy regularly and after pre-booking 3 flights from Doncaster, I've vowed never to use this complete sham of an airline again! First flight 2 of the 3 toilets were out of service...I was unfortunately seated opposite the servicable toilet which ultimately ended up blocked and caused a terrible smell.

Second flight...return from Pisa was delayed by 5 hours. They had to fly in a plane from another airline to cover the flight. I wrote to Thomson to complain and received a pretty standard response...not very friendly and stating that I should claim under my independent travel insurance. I'm sure that under new legislation, delays of over 4 hours require at least some refreshments...we were offered nothing and handed a letter telling us to buy our own drinks and snacks before boarding as there wouldn't be any refreshment on board.

Third flight...outbound journey we were delayed as we had to change planes due to a technical fault. Just as we boarded a spare aircraft, we saw the flight next to us, board and unboard as there was a technical fault with their aircraft...that flight was cancelled.

Is it just my perception but are they running the scheduled arm of their operation like a charter company?

I'm very disappointed and would certainly never recommend this airline to anyone!

No plane back - stranded in Paris!, Jun 27, 2005
reviewer: Mihai from UK
Course you heard it before, Thomson are going down really fast and manage to sometimes be worse than useless. Flew to Paris in June, scheduled back on 20th of June. Got to the airport, no Thomson plane in sight. Flight was announced as delayed 2 hours... there came NO TH. plane. Spome French plane had to be flown to Paris from somewhere in France and then, instead of Coventry, the flight wenty to Birmingham (where buses waited). Not even complementary drinks served, let alone an explanations from these creeps.

Scheduled from Coventry airport to Alicante March’05, May 19, 2005

Thompson fly: Scheduled from Coventry airport to Alicante March’05

Travelled last Easter with the family to no more exotic location than Alicante in Spain from Coventry. Outbound no great problem, the flight despite being during school holidays only had 90 or so on a 737 was a bit of a surprise. The return was a different matter, arrived at Alicante 2hrs before the flight to read that it’d been delayed from 4:40’ish back a couple of hours. No Thomson rep in the airport & likewise not answering their contact numbers. The flight was but back from 7 to 8pm, then back more or less every hour further delayed we put on the board…. first to 9, then to 10, and guess what after that to 11pm….
By now a group of angry clients many who had children were looking to speak to someone.. but nobody wanted to speak to us. Eventually Iberia who’d booked us in, & issued the boarding cards said they were acting as their agent. After much talking they agree to feed us, 2 hours later we returned and declined their offer of a paper bag with a sandwich and sweets, eventually after a call to someone in Luton Head Office they agree to give us a hot meal, but point blank refused to take the families to a hotel for the night.
We eventually took off at around 1:30 am and flew to Luton where they then busses us up to Coventry, arriving more or less 12 hours late.
To date despite tow letters Thomson are refusing point blank to pay any thing out at all, not even for the hot meal they had agreed to pay for!

They have offered nothing in compensation either, and have pointed out that we should have been covered by independent insurance! They are a real shambles, and not very pleasant to boot! We'd advise to avoid at all cost.
I'm taking them to court!
If this page had a minus rating rahter than a minimum 1 Star we'd have used the minus rating! Terrible!
