Flew with Northwest from Amsterdam to Seattle. Outbound was fine. Airbus 330, flight was not full and had plenty of room for manouevre. Entertainment screen in back of seat was a bonus and a good selection on it.

Flight attendants were very proffessional, seemed more mature than on other airlines that I have flown on. Nothing was too much trouble

Food? Well, it`s airline food!

Return flight was delayed at Seatac for an hour and a half, due to a smoke alarm fault in the hold. This caused me to miss my connecting flight home from Amsterdam to Manchester, but their partner KLM sorted out a seat on the next flight and gave me meal vouchers to compensate for the delay.

handled bad weather delays well, Feb 27, 2007

Northwest treated me well when stuck in Minneapolis due to delay in LaCrosse, WI, missing the connecting flight. Because the delay was caused by a mechanical issue rather than weather, they issued me a hotel, dinner, and breakfast voucher, no questions asked. On both flights, the pilots expertly handled severe weather conditions and landed us safely.

My one gripe is that updated flight information was not available through their website or through their 800 call-in number. I had to find out from the local airport that my originally scheduled flight was cancelled.

All in all returned home two days late because of bad weather, but my experience was not bad. If you maintain a good attitude and talk to people with respect, they tend to respond in kind.

Went out West on Northwest., Apr 21, 2006

Flew on Northwest from Milwaukee via Minneapolis/St. Paul to Los Angeles on a family vacation. Our flights were very excellent, smooth connections in Minneapolis, served us plenty of beverages on the way out to California. Flight arrived on time and all our luggage arrived with us. Flight out of LAX departed on time, we again had good service on the way home. We arrived 35 minutes earlier in Minneapolis, plenty of time to make our connecting flight back to Milwaukee, and our luggage arrived with no problems. Our family always flies on Northwest and we have never had any trouble with them. Will fly on them again!!

Just TERRIBLE, Feb 10, 2006

I've had the misfortune of experiencing some really horrendous airline experiences. Usually, it's the flight attendants who make or break a flight. Northwest wins the award for the single most obnoxious flight attendant EVER: This female FA was surly and rude, snapping at me and all the passengers around me throughout this miserable flight (LAX to Boston's Logan). This FA practically snapped the head off the poor woman sitting next to me when she had the audacity to ask for some lemon with her tea. "Cream or SUGAR!" the FA from Hell snarled back in response. I looked at my fellow passenger and she looked at me and we both just burst out laughing which only made this Witch from Hell angrier and more passive/aggressive.

In this day and age, there are alteratives to flying Northwest Airlines--the Greyhound bus, for example. Passengers, be warned, if you fly Northwest you may be in for the worst flying experience of your life.

Untrustworthy, Jan 08, 2006

Flight out of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Checked on status of flight one week prior to departure and it was listed as cancelled. I called, requested a refund and was told it was being submitted and should be completed in 5-10 days. After over a month of calling on a weekly basis and being reassured that it was in the works I was eventually told the flight flew as scheduled and I was not getting a refund. Furthermore they had no record what-so-ever of any communication I had with them, including my initial refund request phone call.

No wonder they are in trouble, Oct 23, 2005

I had the misfortune of having to fly NW London - Amsterdam- Minneapolis - Calgary return. The aircraft was dirty and old and the food was terrible. The attitude of the cabin staff was that you were doing them a favour travelling with them -and that was travelling business class. Never again. Please, Continental - ditch your tie up with them

Never again, Sep 19, 2005

We were traveling with children. On our return flight when they called for people flying with children, husband wanted to be polite and wait (that was a HUGE MISTAKE). When we got in we found our seats had been swapped and we ended up all over the plane! They didn't like our complaints either because they got very nasty. We complained and they made it sound like we had been outrageous. They almost got security...we didn't raise our voices we did nothing but be angry at the situation. I would have thought they would have been nice about it. This was the worst experience I have ever had. NEver again!

Worst customer service experience ever (across all fields), Sep 10, 2005

Due to a delay in our NWA flight from Boston, my mother and I had approximately 15 minutes to reach a connecting flight to Dayton, OH. Since my mother has a heart condition and cannot walk quickly, I went ahead of her to the departure gate (30 gates away). I reached the departure gate just before the flight's scheduled departure time (7p) and explained to the agent about my mother's heart condition and that she was coming as quickly as possible. However, the agent said that she would close the flight in 1.5 minutes, and that we would have to take the 10p flight to Dayton. The flight time to Dayton was estimated at 40 minutes, and no explanation was offered as to why a 5-minute delay was unacceptable. The agent also offered no assistance in helping my mother to reach the departure gate. Fortunately, my mother managed to arrive within the next 1.5 minutes.

I understand that Northwest is having difficulties these days, and that on-time departures and arrivals are important. Nevertheless, other carriers hold flights for travelers that need to make connections. I also forgot to mention that I pressed the attendant call button 3 times in a 20-minute period during the Boston-Detroit flight to ask for gate and delay information, and I got no response from a crew that seemed not at all busy.

Worst Airline EVER!!!, Jul 14, 2005

Customer service is such a drag when you're dealing with people who have a manual that simply says, "Customer is always wrong." Not to mention the rude, arrogant flight attendants who are simply there to make the ride more uncomfortable.

Never fly this carrier.

Frequent Flyer - Alway Happy, May 24, 2005

I fly NW airlines 3-4 times a month for business and always have a good experience. They sometimes run late, but usually provide you with a voucher good for a free drink, miles or money off a flight when this happens. The attendants are always OK - but I'm not one of those people who expects bubbling friendliness from everyone. They always leave me alone while I'm sleeping which I appreciate, and get me what I want when I need it. On international flights, the food is reasonable, they are liberal with the drinks (they will give you 2 mini-bottles at a time if you ask), and the AVOD system in the A330 airbus (Asia flights) is wonderful. I have also found that their frequent flyer program allows you to rack up miles pretty quickly.

I would recommend NW to anyone who flies a lot and expects good transportation with a minimum of hassle. If you are looking for luxury or a special experience this isn't it - but it does get you (and your luggage) from A to B without problems - and I like that.

Only fly NWA if you are a masochist., Oct 15, 2004

We flew from Atlanta to London via Minneapolis. To start out, we were delayed about an hour. It happens. When we got on the plane, the staff acted as if they were flight attendants on a prison transport plane. No greeting or anything. Throughout the flight, we barely saw the attendants. When we boarded the plane to London in Minneapolis, it was pretty much the same. The crew again acted as if they were doing us a favour by letting us on their plane. Soon after sitting down, I remembered that I forgot to tell the attendant who was “greeting” us as we boarded that I had ordered a special meal, as they requested I do when I ordered it. I stopped a flight attendant and apologized for forgetting the attendant at the door that I had ordered a vegetarian me. With a burning look in her eyes, she coldly said, “Well, you’ll eat the pasta then.” Thinking I was insane, I turned to my friend to ask him if I heard what I thought I had heard, and he had a look of shock on his face and confirmed what I experienced. Finally I found someone and explained that I ordered a special meal, and she actually got it for me. On the return flight, there were actually 2 very nice flight attendants from London. They were so nice, and I was so happy to get decent service, I even took a picture with them. Now we get to Minneapolis and after an initial 2 hour delay, we are finally told that the airline just realized the flight crew had already flown too many hours that day, so they had to fly another one in. Several hours later, the crew arrived. I discovered that one of the nice flight attendants was still waiting on her flight, so I went to say good-bye to her again. While talking to her, another NWA airline interrupted me and asked me if I have any brains left in my head (I have several earrings). I was shocked. On the flight to Atlanta, the plane looked old and shabby. We saw the flight attendant once, but he gave us 2 beers each at the same time and didn’t charge us. I think he was hitting on one of us. He also let us use his cell phone. So out of all the attendants on 4 flights, 3 were friendly. I was so disgusted with my overall treatment, I didn’t even complain to them because I would not fly NWA again even if it were free.
