Austrian breaks your luggage and DOES NEVER COVER your loss., Feb 18, 2008
reviewer: gurkan from Turkey
My name is Gurkan Ozer, I am a travel professional of 25 years, do own a small Conference Organizing tour operator in Istanbul.
I also teach at Bogazici University, Tourism Administration Dept. the class of “Information Technology for Tourism Industry”. (www.gurkanozer.org )

I have a real disappointment with what AUSTRIAN AIRLINES has done in taking care of my damaged-suitcase.
I took the a round-trip flight from Istanbul to Vienna by Turkish Airlines, then to Innsbruck by Austrian Airlines.
On my return flight on 26th Jan from Innsbruck to Vienna by Austrian Airlines, my luggage got broken.
I really was very upset for I did not have time to follow the complaint I made at the airport in Vienna, since I was supposed to catch the flight by TK to Istanbul. Therefore, I had my report written by Austrian Airlines officers at the airport in Vienna, and got back to Istanbul. Following days, I went to visit the Austrian Airlines office in Istanbul.

However, Istanbul Office of Austrian Airlines (the central office at Gumussuyu) was not helpful at all...
The Austrian Airlines officials in Vienna made the inspection on the luggage and gave the estimated value of 250 Euro for the damaged luggage.
But Istanbul Office kept insisting that my luggage was worth 100 Euro, not more. Their rationale was that my luggage was 3 years old and got depreciation deducted...I also COULD NOT give my luggage although it was broken and damaged severly, because it is a memory from my brother who died during 1999 earthquake. Istanbul Office experts have seen the luggage it was made totally useless due to sever damage. (I even had some clothes I newly purchased got really dirty and stained due to the crack and hole opened on the luggage).

Eventually, out of 250 Euro total estimated value by Austrian Airlines experts in Vienna, I was offered by Istanbul Office, the amount 100 Euro!...
I told them that this amount was not enough to purchase a nearly similar luggage like that of mine damaged...They said this was not their problem...

Now , as a 25 years experienced Tourism professional, I went to Innsbruck for an E-Tourism conference for professionals and academicians. Spending all that for Etourism conference in Innsbruck, is this the reward of Austrian Airlines to me?...Not recovering my damage caused by them !...This was a real irreplaceable memorabile from my brother to me, and this was a very expensive luggage...And even the estimated value 250 Euro was not enough to purchase someting like that..But Austrian Airlines Istanbul Office claims to be able to pay 100 Euro only!...

I am asking for this problem to be fixed kindly by Austrian Airlines officials.
I will certainly not ever take another Austrian flight , until my problem fixed.
I really am going to apply to wherever I can to express how I feel about this unwanted situation created by Austrian Airlines...
This is so unfair...So unacceptable...You cannot just break the luggage of people and turn your back to them when the time comes to recover...
This is not how Corporations act towards their clients....

No Way AA, Nov 12, 2007
reviewer: Helen from UK
Absolutely shocking.

I travelled with AA for an international sporting event and had to take a lot of equipment with me. It was arranged with their "Special Cases" that we could carry it free of charge - they decided to charge us and refused to give us our boarding cards until we paid up - despite the booking saying "free" on the screen.

The staff were rude and do not communicate with each other.

When we landed, all our equipment was lost and so we nearly missed the tournament. On the way back, they told me to take a bag on the plane - I was then stopped by security for having it and told I couldn't have it - despite the AA staff saying I should take it. The flight was vastly delayed and we were never informed why. When we eventually arrived back, once again my luggage was missing.

The only good thing? The food.

Don't believe your seats are guaranteed, Aug 06, 2007
reviewer: Jon from USA
We were traveling with our dog from Frankfurt to Salzburg round-trip and needed (and had confirmed)seats together. The airline, on both segments, although the tickets were purchased together, re-assigned us separate seats (and we were flying business class). Further, their boarding procedure in Salzburg is a mess, no announcements, no one at the gate. In addition, their business class seats are the same dimension as their coach seats--but you have a curtain separating you from economy!

Austrian is fooling pasengers from India, Mar 24, 2007
reviewer: Raj Khalid from India
I just booked a ticket on Austrian Airlines. The India website shows off a fantastic New Business Class. However, when I tried to look at the site to see if this was offered on the Mumbai Vienna flight the link would not work. I then went to the Belgian site of Austrian and there I saw that the new business class is not offered on the Mumbai sector. Why not say it up front and be honest and transparent? When I called up the airline the staff was very rude and aggressive. I also learnt that they fly the Boeing 767-300 ER which is a very old aircraft. I think Austrian flies the oldest and worst aircraft on the India sector. Is this a reflection of Austrian arrogance or simply a discriminatroy attitude to the Indian customer? If the airline wants to be even handed then alternat flights to Mumbai and other countries with the new planes.

it's alright, Feb 05, 2006

Have flown Austrian numerous times from Heathrow to Vienna and once from Vienna to Toronto. The short haul flight from Heathrow was generally uneventful. I remember being extremely thirsty as we weren't given anything to drink. The flight from Vienna to Toronto was a nightmare: extremely grouchy, unfriendly stewardesses who never smiled.

flying with children, Jan 29, 2006

i flew with two young children to maurius on lauda airways (sister fleet to austrian)sept 2005 and have to agree with the passenger who flew to sydney they were awful. really unchild friendly. and as for the airport staff they were really rude never again!!!!!!

Long haul hell., Dec 10, 2005
reviewer: Stuart. from UK.
We flew from London to Vienna to Sydney return in the Summer of 2005.

Check in staff were rude and unhelpful. They had some 200 people to check in and only 2 check in staff. It was chaos! They were splitting families up and generally putting people as far away from each other in the plane as possible. Once on the plane it was choas as the passengers themselves had to do the negotiating to swap seats to be next to their families.

Vienna airport is uncomfortable at best, overcrowded and there is no where to sit.

The Lauda air plane they gave us for the long haul flight seemed to be from the 1970's with wood panelling in economy. British rail seats are more comfortable and wider than Austrian Airline seats which just shows how poor they are! Anyone who is not a waif will struggle for seat width. Don't even bother trying to complain as they just don't care.

But to top it all, people asked for some water. Most airlines would be happy to hand you some water whenever you like, but not Austrian! I believe their phrase was "Sorry sir, it's not water time". If ever there is an airline worth avoiding at all cost, then this is the one!

Perhaps the best flight experience ever . . ., Apr 05, 2005

I had a wonder flight on Austrian Airlines. Although I'm a frequent flier, I'm terrified each time I have to get on a plane. My flights (meaning one round-trip) were smoothe, and I could hardly feel any turbulence.

The service was phenomenal, and the food was nothing short of extraordinary.

One of the best Airlines I have ever flown with, Oct 06, 2004
reviewer: Daniel from New York
I was very impressed the first time I flew with Austrian Airlines. You know, the first is usally the most important impression. I flew New York-Vienna and usually you want it to be a comfortable flight and it was amazing! Great leg space, since I am quite tall. The best in technology, TV screens behind each seat with a different choice of movies, even a telephone. The food and the service was really good and I even arrived 18 minute earlier! Definitely a better airlines than the ones I have flown with such as All Nippon, Lufthansa or any American airlines! Keep up the great work Austrian!

Excellent Food and Attentive Service, Sep 27, 2004
reviewer: Robert Riddell from Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Flew with Austrian Airlines in August 2004 (Toronto - Vienna) and was impressed by the amenities: new aircraft, efficient service, delicious food and complimentary wines. A highlight was being able to see the plane take off and land through a camera located in the belly of the aircraft - well done! I would definitely fly them again - just wish they flew out of Vancouver too!
